Meet Hans

Born in 1951 of German-French origin, Hans Monheim found in Puerto de Pollença not only a place to live, but also the luminous setting for a lifetime dedicated to observation and art. He came to Mallorca attracted by the calm, the light and the landscapes of an island that, since the 1960s, had captivated artists and travellers from all over the world.

His photographic gaze did not seek spectacle, but rather the serene truth of the moment: sunrises over the harbour, the transparency of the sea at Formentor, the mountains of Ternelles, or the silence of Cala San Vicente. Each image is a blend of technique, sensitivity, and respect for nature.

Monheim never claimed to be a professional artist. He used to say, modestly and with a touch of irony, that he was just an ‘advanced amateur’, although his work proved otherwise. In 2006, he published ‘Pollença – Homenaje a la Belleza’ (Pollença – Tribute to Beauty), a large-format book (DIN A3, 250 pages) that sold out in less than a month, reflecting the emotion of those who recognised the soul of the place in his photographs.

In 2020, the Pollença Town Council paid tribute to him for his contribution to promoting the municipality's culture and tourism. That same year, Monheim donated his photographic archive—some 30,000 images—to the town of Pollença, a gesture that confirms his desire to give back to the community what the island had given him: inspiration, light, and meaning.

His work does not belong to fashion or artifice, but to the visual memory of an authentic Mallorca, one that still breathes between the sea and the mountains. Hans Monheim is, in short, the silent chronicler of the beauty of Pollença.
